[ARCHIVED] Clean-up Neely Henry Lake, Build Community (& the Coosa River)

Gadsden, Alabama - Coosa Riverkeeper, along with our amazing sponsors, is proud to present the Neely

Henry Lake Cleanup on Saturday, June 25th, 2016 at the Coosa Landing Boat Ramp from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM to benefit Coosa Riverkeeper. Afterwards, please join us a Back Forty Beer Company for a cold beverage and a warm lunch (available for purchase), and the opportunity to meet locals who are all interested in keeping the Coosa a clean place to fish and play.
This volunteer experience emphasizes the importance of clean water for fishermen, community members, and the aquatic life inhabiting the Coosa River. Upon arrival, volunteers will be sent out either on boats or on foot to an area along the river to clean. There will also be a dump truck at the landing for all trash to be taken away and disposed of properly.
Hugh Stump, Executive Director for the Greater Gadsden Area Tourism, says: “There are many important aspects of the river, but today I think recreation is a major importance. Many people live on the river or travel to recreate, be with family and friends, and to enjoy the beauty of the river. The river can't take care of itself when it comes to trash, pollution, etc. There isn’t one person "appointed or hired" specifically to take care of the river, except for the Coosa Riverkeeper, which is why volunteers are needed!”
Attending this amazing event helps support the work of Coosa Riverkeeper to protect, restore, and promote the Coosa River and its tributaries. Coosa Riverkeeper works in the Middle and Lower Coosa Basins, a 4,892 square mile area with 5 of the Coosa’s 6 lakes, on 220 miles of river. Justinn Overton, Executive Director of Coosa Riverkeeper says,“We hope you’ll join us in celebrating the beautiful and ever important Coosa River. We promise you’ll have a real good time!”
