December 2nd marks the opening of the Gadsden Museum of Art’s exhibit, “I Remember: Stories.” The show focuses on stories collected veterans of the Iraqi War and the sacrifices that they made. The other component to the show includes biographies of local soldiers killed in action: Etowah Historical Society compiled the information.
Iraqi War Veteran, Joshua Benefield’s uses graphic design and photography to explore the deeper themes that soldiers experience from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder to Survivor’s guilt. The family of Major Jeffrey O. Ausborn, Hokes Bluff native, share their son’s memory through letters, photographs, medals, and honors.
The reception and activities are free and open to the public. The opening will be from 5 pm to 7 pm. Refreshments and light hors d’oeuvres will be served. Also on display are Hand to Heart: Folk Art, Whimsey’s, and Traditional Craft, as well Jennifer Allen’s installation Grounded. For more information, contact museum staff at (256)-546-7365.
