Gadsden, Alabama The City of Gadsden’s Public Works Department has begun its leaf pick up program, transitioning from the Spring and Summer grass cutting phase to the Fall leaf pick up program. We will be using six leaf pick up machines throughout the city this year. Each truck has three to four employees to help the process move efficiently, the better the leaf piles the quicker the crews can progress through their routes.
Leaf Pile Guidelines
- Do place your leaf piles in your yard near the curb.
- Don’t place the leaves on or near a drain inlet or drain pipe
- Don’t place the leaves in the gutter or in the travel area of the street.
- Don’t mix in sticks and branches they can damage the vacuum system.
Safety is of critical importance. Please exercise caution when you encounter the leaf crews operating in your neighborhood. Leaf machines will move slowly while gathering leaves. Several employees will be moving around the truck raking leaves to the vacuum and directing the vacuum hose. If you need to pass the leaf machine, please drive slowly and carefully while giving a wide berth. The leaf machine is loud and it can be difficult for our workers to hear oncoming traffic.
Lastly, we wanted to make sure that you know the leaf pick up schedule. Our six leaf pick up machines work on a route system. It normally takes two weeks to run a full route. Our loader trucks that collect yard trash and debris also will collect leaves on their routes. You can also bag your leaves and that will allow the loader trucks to pick them up easily and cleanly.
