This
highly visible project includes nearly a mile of walking paths and is destined
to be heavily used with its excellent riverfront access, pedestrian bridge,
three scenic pavilions, and prime location.
The concrete plaza under the Broad Street Memorial Bridge will serve as
the main entrance, as well as a central gathering space. The Riverwalk
will be an asset to the growing Coosa Landing complex that already hosts dozens
of fishing tournaments, several concerts, and other exciting
activities. The pathways are a mixture of concrete sidewalks, timber
boardwalk, and gravel pathways that also have pedestrian lighting installed throughout.
The Riverwalk at Coosa Landing also offers a large picnic pavilion, two new
fixed docks with multiple boat slips, and an additional 250’ boardwalk for
improved fishing access as well as boat docking just downstream of the Broad
Street Bridge. The Riverwalk at Coosa Landing will be a key venue and
facility for all residents of the City of Gadsden.
Today
also brings the announcement of the next phase of the Coosa Landing
development. The Mayor’s Office is pleased to share the Gadsden City Council’s
approval of a proposed multiuse development that will bring extraordinary
opportunities to our City. This development offers a next generation
public-private partnership that will bring a new event center and retail space
to the 14-acre parcel on George Wallace Drive.
As other development progresses the new facility will be a modern
replacement for Convention Hall, which has been a long-time fixture in the City
of Gadsden.
Stay
tuned for more information as the development progresses and more great potential
is realized in our community.
