Memorial Day weekend will see a new event on the Coosa River as the Neely Henry Lake Association and Greater Gadsden Area Tourism will partner to present a boat parade at 1p.m. on Saturday, May 27.
“We experimented with a small-scale parade this past Christmas,” said Hugh Stump III, executive director for Greater Gadsden Area Tourism. “The enthusiasm shown by the boaters and spectators encouraged a Memorial Day weekend parade to kick off the boating season. Having the Neely Henry Lake Association on board to help has been a tremendous boost.”
The boats will assemble at the area around Rainbow Landing and the Southside/Hwy 77 bridge around 12:30 p.m. The parade will head south at 1 p.m. to Broughton Springs where they will reverse course and continue upriver to Gadsden. Boats will disperse at the railroad bridge in Gadsden between 3 and 4 p.m. There is no entry fee and there are no prizes or categories. Please call 256-490-5959 for more information or to join the parade.
Prime viewing locations would include Rainbow Landing in Rainbow City, Ray Family Park on River Road, the Coosa Boardwalk on Hwy 411 across from Moragne Park and the new Riverwalk Park at Coosa Landing.
