The 6th Street Pool will open Saturday, September 2nd at 10 a.m. after a complete renovation of the pool and construction of a pool house. The pool will operate from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday - Saturday then 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The City of Gadsden started the project this Spring, demolished the outdated bath house and constructed a new modern facility with lockers, showers, restrooms and other amenities. The much-used facility at 400 N 6th Street was closed for the season during construction.
The YMCA of the Coosa Valley will operate the 6th Street Swimming Pool. The YMCA will provide trained lifeguards at all times during pool operation. The pool will stay open until cool weather necessitates a seasonal closure. Next season, the YMCA plans to offer swim lessons at the pool.
On Saturday, September 9th at 11 a.m. the Bath House at the 6th Street Pool will be dedicated to coaches L.C. Presley and George Baker. Coaches Baker and Presley are being honored by the naming of the pool’s bath house for their legacy of involvement in the community through education, athletics, and public service. The public is invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the facility.
