Moragne Park Renovation Bid Awarded
Tuesday, April 3, 2018 the Gadsden City Council awarded the bid for the renovations of Moragne Park to Etowah County contractor Boatner Construction. Moragne Park, one of Gadsden’s flagship parks, will be getting a much-needed facelift that will touch every part of the park located along Highway 411, and adjacent to Historic Downtown Gadsden on the banks of the Coosa River.
The project will be extensive and includes two new sets of restrooms, three new picnic pavilions, renovation of the multipurpose pavilion, comprehensive drainage, extensive paved walking trails, three new sand volleyball courts, and children’s playground area. The large central green-space will also be upgraded with stadium-type lighting for outdoor recreational sports and great visibility. The entry, parking and access to the park will also be redesigned, and the entire park will be re-landscaped.
The bid for construction and renovation of Moragne Park is $2.2 Million, construction will start soon, and the project will be completed in 2018. A portion of the funding for the park renovations is coming from the one cent sales tax approved in 2017.
In March the City Council awarded the bid for the new children’s playground area. The new playground will feature completely new equipment, wheelchair accessible surfaces, two large slides, and two zip lines.
The renovated and refreshed Moragne Park will again be a gathering and recreation place for both Gadsden residents and visitors alike to enjoy the outdoors and create new memories.
