[ARCHIVED] National Parks and Recreation Month and Local Park Spotlight

Park Grid

Gadsden, AL- Since 1985, the month of July is dedicated to National Parks and Recreation. This entire month is designed to bring awareness to the importance of community parks and recreational facilities. All parks and facilities play a key role in promoting health and physical activities in communities, and the overall mission is to get everyone outdoors exploring local parks and recreational facilities!  To celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month, the City of Gadsden highlighted the various local parks in the community.

Gadsden residents may have recently seen the local parks spotlights which were featured on the City of Gadsden Facebook and Twitter pages.  The City of Gadsden featured 14 local parks, and included the location of the park, as well as highlighted the many improvements and updates which have been completed at the parks. Some of these park updates include a new updated safety surface and safety border, basketball goals, park equipment, slides, water play, and swing sets. City of Gadsden parks are spread out throughout the different communities, which makes it easily accessible for all residents to visit and enjoy a  local park!

Moragne Park, one of a handful of larger citywide parks was not included in the local park spotlight because the park is undergoing extensive reconstruction. Moragne Park, located off Albert Rains Boulevard, across from the beautiful Coosa River will feature three new pavilions, two new restrooms, three regulation-size volleyball courts, brand new playground equipment, one wheelchair swing, and a parent-child side-by-side slide,  and much more.  The project and reopening of the park should be completed in September.

For additional questions regarding the local parks, or if you need further information on any of the recreational or rental facilities, please call the Parks and Recreation Department office at 256-549-4680, or visit us online at CityofGadsden.com.
