Several Members of the Gadsden City Council attended the unveiling ceremonies dedicating Highway 431 (Meighan Blvd) as “Dr. Martin Luther King JR. Memorial Parkway”. This designation puts Gadsden in line with man other great cities in our country recognizing the many contributions made by Dr. King for Civil Rights, Councilman Deverick Williams said during the ceremonies. Many City officials attended the unveiling and the ceremonies that followed in the Auditorium at Gadsden City High School including Mayor Sherman Guyton, Councilman Robert Avery, Councilman Billy Harris, Councilman Deverick Williams, Police Chief Johnny Crane, as well as members of our local legislative delegation, all of whom reportedly supported the effort according to many.
The entire ceremony was recorded by Channel 99 and upon completion will air on the City’s PEG channel (Comcast Ch 99) during the upcoming weeks. Also, as with most any program produced by the City, it will also be made available online via its YouTube channel, Facebook page, or may be purchased on DVD from the City Clerk’s Office.
