IDA_Hooks-4

Gadsden, Ala. - The Gadsden-Etowah County Industrial Development Authority is proud to introduce their new Executive Director, James David Hooks. Hooks is an innovative business leader with extensive economic development, public finance, and industrial recruitment experience. Hooks comes to Gadsden from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where he was the Director of Innovation at The Edge of Chaos, a collaborative, creative group designed to spur innovation at UAB's School of Public Health and beyond.

"We are glad to be able to bring David home. He’s come a long way since serving on the Attalla City Council. While we have always been proud to see David's accomplishments from a distance, we are excited to give him a chance to work for Gadsden, Etowah County, and all of our cities. David brings a wealth of experience back with him, and we can't wait for him to get started," said Gadsden-Etowah IDA President Larry Means.

Hooks has a strong record of accomplishment of success in the public sector, dealing with the unique challenges of public finance and politics. He was a key leader in helping Jefferson County get back on its feet after bankruptcy. He also led the Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA) Industrial Recruitment efforts, bringing business and industry throughout the seven-state span of the TVA. Hooks served as the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) director, where he built strong connections and experience in State and Federal Government. He will be a tremendous advocate for Gadsden and Etowah County, bringing our unique advantages to the forefront of the industrial recruitment and economic development conversation.

"I am looking forward to working with David to build on our industrial development momentum. Gadsden is in a great position for growth in good jobs and new industries. He will take our recruitment of innovative companies and new ventures to the next level," said Gadsden Mayor Sherman Guyton.

The Gadsden-Etowah Industrial Development Authority is committed to recruiting and enhancing the economy of Gadsden and Etowah County. The Gadsden-Etowah IDA has a strong board with representatives from the various communities in the Etowah County area. Hooks will join assistant director Bill Greene as the IDA builds on the success of economic development in the past and looks to ensure future growth.
