[ARCHIVED] EYO Announces 2019 Spring Formal Concert

The Etowah Youth Orchestras will present the final concert of its 2018-2019 concert season in early May, featuring the ensembles of the EYO after-school program. This concert marks the final performance for 21 seniors of the EYO program.

On Sunday, May 5th, the Etowah Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Etowah Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Etowah String Sinfonia will present the EYO Spring Formal Concert. The performance, which is sponsored by Howard Core Company, will be held at Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center on the campus of Gadsden State Community College at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $10-15, and are available at www.wallacehall.org, at the reception desk of the Mary G. Hardin Center for Cultural Arts, or at the door starting one hour prior to the performance.

For the final concert of its inaugural season, the Etowah String Sinfonia will feature compositions by “The Three B’s:” Bach, Beethoven and Brahms.  The String Sinfonia is under the direction of Assistant Conductor Bryce Anderson.  The Etowah Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, also completing its inaugural season, is under the joint direction of Assistant Conductor Deborah Boos and Music Director and Conductor Michael R. Gagliardo. The Philharmonic will feature the music of Grieg and Copland, as well as Rossini’s William Tell Overture.

Under the baton of Music Director and Conductor Michael R. Gagliardo, the Etowah Youth Symphony Orchestra will open its performance with the U.S. premiere of “Tumbao y Bailao,” composed by Venezuelan violinist, composer, and great friend of the EYO, Alfonso Lopez. Mr. Lopez will be conducting the work with the National Youth Symphony of Costa Rica in July. The Symphony will also perform selections from Pirates of the Caribbean and will cap the Spring Formal Concert with Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor, “From the New World,” movements 1, 2 and 4.

The Etowah Youth Orchestras is a project of the Gadsden Cultural Arts Foundation, in partnership with the City of Gadsden and the Attalla City, Etowah County and Gadsden City School Systems.
