In the event of inclement weather, Beautiful Rainbow Café will observe closing for weather days as they occur and as they are called by the Gadsden City School System. 

Beautiful Rainbow Café will be closed for graduation and a short summer break May 23-June 3! They will reopen with regular hours of operation on Tuesday, June 4! Congratulations to our graduating Beautiful Rainbow Café friends!

GPL Adult Summer Reading: Who's Who in 200 Years of Alabama History 

When: June 4, 11, & 18; July 2 & 9, 5:30-6:30PM 

Where: GPL Lena Martin Room 

In 2019, Alabama celebrates its 200th anniversary of statehood. Who is your favorite historical figure in Alabama's history? The theme of Alabama's bicentennial year of statehood (2019) focuses on its people. This will be an opportune time to look at people who made Alabama a great place to 

live. We will feature an overflowing cast of characters and talent drawn from music, the arts, politics, sports, science, and technology. Participants will be invited to bring their own favorites to class as well. (instructor: Bill Browning)

Friends of the GPL Membership Drive: Forgotten Alabama with author Glenn Wills 

When: June 25, 5:30-6:30PM 

Where: GPL Lena Martin Room 

Join the Friends of the Gadsden Public Library in welcoming Forgotten Alabama author Glenn Wills! Mr. Wills will discuss the history of forgotten and abandoned places in Alabama via his haunting photographic work. 

Books will be available for purchase at this event. Credit cards accepted. Signing and reception will follow immediately.

GPL Teen Conservation Club: United Cherokee AniYunWiYa Nation (UCAN)

GPL Kids, Teen & Adult Clothing Drive! 

When: May-July 25 (Annual Back-To-School Clothing Sale July 24-26; see schedule below) 

We need your gently-used Children’s, Teen and Adult apparel & accessories! The Teen Zone is collecting gently-used clothing during May, June and July for their annual Back-to-School Clothing 

Sale to be held July 24, 25 & 26 at the GPL in the Lena Martin Room! All proceeds go to GPL programming and outreach! 

Accepting: Shirts, Sweaters, Pants, Blue Jeans, Coats, Dresses (including prom), Skirts, Suits, Handbags, Shoes, Boots, Jewelry, & Scarves! 

Donations may be dropped off at the GPL Circulation Desk. Any items with holes or stains may be discarded at our discretion. Tax Deductible Donation forms are available upon request.

GPL Computer Classes 

Where: Computer Classroom (2nd Floor) of the Main Library 

Classes are offered free-of-charge to the community. Registration is required since space is limited to 12 people per class. Register for classes in person at the Computer Center Desk (2nd floor) or for more information, call 256.549.4699, ext. 2119. A current (free & clear) library card is needed to enroll. If you don’t have a card, you may obtain one at the Circulation Desk, 1st floor of the Main Library. 

Computer Basics for Beginners 

When: June 4 & 5, 9:30AM-12:30PM 

This is a two-day class (3 hours per day) for the absolute beginner or for those who simply need to know more about computers. No computer experience is required.

Want to share your nostalgic stories about what it was like growing up in Gadsden? Were you in the military? Do you have an interesting story to tell? Then join the Gadsden Public Library in our ongoing effort to preserve the oral history of Gadsden and Etowah County. Interviews are now being conducted.
