[ARCHIVED] Gadsden awarded ATRIP II Funding for Meighan Blvd./Hood Ave. Improvements

Mayor Guyton Makes ATRIP II Announcement

During Tuesday's City Council Meeting Mayor Sherman Guyton announced that the City of Gadsden had been selected as one of 28 projects funded by the ATRIP II program.

As a result of an ATRIP II grant award, significant road improvements are in-store at one of our area’s most dangerous intersections. 121 applications for major projects were submitted from across the state, but only 28 were chosen for funding. Gadsden’s submission, requesting improvements at US 431 (Meighan Blvd) and AL 291 (Hood Ave.) at the foot of the Meighan Bridge was selected for nearly $1 Million in improvements.

This project will revamp this critical intersection that connects two of Gadsden’s busiest roads Meighan Blvd. and Hood Ave. This intersection handles a huge volume of traffic, many turning vehicles, including transfer trucks coming off of Interstate 759. This project is a key part of Gadsden's infrastructure improvement plan and will benefit the residents of Gadsden, Etowah County and others traveling through our area and along our riverfront. With other City projects improving the East Chestnut intersection in addition to this project, we know that we’ll have better and safer travel in our area.

"We’re thankful to both Governor Ivey and ALDOT Director Cooper for awarding this much-needed funding for infrastructure in our community. We firmly believe that this project meets the goals of ATRIP II, focusing on public safety, economic growth, and stability of the state and its roads and bridges, " said Mayor Guyton.Map of Roadwork Improvements
