Overnight Flooding Likely
A complex of storms is forecast to affect Etowah County over the next 48 hours. These storms have the potential to cause significant flooding throughout Etowah County. The National Weather Service in Birmingham has forecast rainfall totals in the 4 to 6 inch category for Etowah County. Their update also underscored that flooding will be seen not only in normally flood prone areas, but also in areas that typically do not flood. The rain affecting Etowah County over the previous week has not had a chance to recede fully. Therefore, rain-swollen rivers, tributaries, and creeks will continue to flood. According to Deborah Gaither, Director of the Gadsden/Etowah County Emergency Management Agency, “This is not your typical rain event. Everyone needs to have a preplanned evacuation route if floods approach their homes. With this being an overnight event, take necessary actions before going to bed. ” In flood prone areas, do not leave your pets, animals, or livestock chained or locked up. Have plans for them as well.
The county is currently under a Flash Flood Watch through 6:00 PM tomorrow. If you experience any flooding or damage, please contact the EMA at firstname.lastname@example.org, #gecema, or at 256-549-4575 (M-F 8AM to 4:30PM). Please provide a contact name, address, and telephone number.
