City of Gadsden’s Twin Bridges Golf Club to host 2021 Alabama Open

Some of the top golfers in the state will be in Gadsden this week as Twin Bridges Golf Club plays host to the 2021 Alabama Open sponsored by the City of Gadsden.

The event is organized by the PGA’s Alabama-NW Florida Section and brings a mix of PGA professionals, the best local professionals and top amateurs from around the state to compete.

“This is a big, name-brand event for the state,” said Chet Hallman, PGA golf professional and manager of Twin Bridges.

Around 75 players will compete in the “State Championship of Golf in Alabama” from Friday, July 23, 2021, to Sunday, July 25.

The event offers the opportunity to highlight Twin Bridges and the Gadsden area to the top golfers in the state.

The par-72, 6,800-yard course is set along the Coosa River and recently underwent a number of upgrades, including a replacement of the greens.

The Alabama Open has previously been held at locations around the state like the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail’s Capitol Hill in Prattville and municipal courses like Ol’ Colony in Tuscaloosa.

Hallman said there’s an opportunity for the City of Gadsden to continue to host the tournament in the future, and it also gives the city a chance to attract other events to Twin Bridges.

“We’re looking at this event as the springboard to some of the bigger amateur events,” including events run by the Alabama Golf Association and larger junior golf events, Hallman said.

Once hotel room stays, restaurant visits, gas and shopping purchases by competitors are considered, the Alabama Open will also have an immediate, positive impact on the City of Gadsden’s economy.
