Contact the city clerk's office at 549-4516 to obtain a copy of city ordinances or resolutions.

2. Do I qualify to receive an exemption from payment of garbage fees?

You may qualify for an exemption if the only sources of income in the household are social security benefits. In addition, a person receiving railroad or veteran’s benefits may also be exempted if their total household income is below 75% of the federal poverty level.. 1. What is the process to determine how CDBG funds are dispersed in Gadsden, AL?

Community Development staff meet with the Mayor’s office, City Council, other city departments, public and private agencies who deal with various issues affecting the community, and health and social service agencies. Each November a Public Hearing is held to solicit input and interest from citizens and social service agencies.

1. How do I become a fire fighter?

The Gadsden Firefigter's exam will be given every other month. You will need to apply in the Personnel Department at City Hall on the 2nd floor. There is a $1.50 fee and you will receive a study guide. The deadline to apply for the test is the 3rd Wednesday of the testing month and the test will be given on the 4th Wednesday.

2. How do I request a burn permit?

If you have something to burn at your residence contact our non-emergency number. A fire department representative will be sent to determine if the material is feasible to burn. If approved, we will issue a burn permit. The Alabama Department of Emergency Management has imposed a NO-BURN effective May through November.

3. Where and how do I get a fire report?

If you need a fire or medical report for insurance or to get Red Cross or Salvation Army assistance, come by the Central Fire Station located at 322 Walnut Street. There is a cost of $3.00 per report. Due to confidentiality laws (HIPAA), if a medical report is requested only the individual injured, guardian or parent, or a signed power of attorney will be able to obtain the report.

1. What is the court schedule?

Court is held every other Tuesday at 1:00 pm and every Thursday at 8:00 am and 1:00 pm. Reviews are the third Friday of each month at 8:00 am.

2. What can I do if I need more time to pay my fine?

If you need additional time to pay your fine, you must appear in court and the judge will determine if an extension is granted.

Garbage is household waste that is placed in the large black cans for collection. Trash is tree limbs, leaves, grass clippings, etc.
