Public Notices: Transportation trial fixed route and courtesy stops

Gadsden Transportation Buses

The City of Gadsden Transportation Services is offering a trial transportation route called the "Downtown Circulator" and a trial for "courtesy stops."

Downtown Circulator

Public notice is being given for a trial fixed route period to begin on Dec. 1, 2023. This route will be called the "Downtown Circulator" and will start/end at the N. 4th Street Transfer Station.

This route will run on a 30-minute loop beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 1 p.m. Monday through Friday (except City holidays). I anticipate this route will help our ridership access areas of Gadsden that are otherwise not served by our current fixed routes.

After a 6-month trial period; we will enlist the riding public to comment on the continued use of this route. I look forward to hearing about your experiences on this new route.

Sincerely,

Tim Dail

Courtesy Stops

Gadsden Transportation Services will be implementing "Courtesy Stops"; a program that lets riders request a drop-off in between regular stops. Beginning on Jan. 8, 2024, you may request a "Courtesy Stop" as you are boarding the bus.

This program is designed to give riders a chance to exit the bus closer to their destination or because of better lighting or sidewalk connectivity that makes them feel more comfortable using fixed route transit service.

All Courtesy Stops are at the discretion of the bus driver, and the driver may decline a stop if they determine the requested location is unsafe for someone to exit the bus. (Such as: high traffic roadways, no shoulder or unstable shoulder surface, in an intersection, construction zone, etc.)

After a 6-month trial period, we will enlist the riding public to comment on the continued use of this policy. I look forward to meeting with you on that date.

Sincerely,

Tim Dail
