As of January 15, 2024, the Noccalula Falls Campground Renovation project has commenced. The City of Gadsden reinvested $11.3 million into a complete renovation of the site.
As a result, the campground is expected to be closed for construction until January 2025.
By city ordinance, all proceeds from the annual Christmas at the Falls event are dedicated to park enhancements, and this project is funded through revenue from that event.
The renovation will include new underground utilities throughout the campground, construction of a new zero-entry swimming pool, reinvigoration of the bath houses, the creation of a new administrative office, and more.
The project will also revamp the parking lot between Noccalula Road and the campground entrance, include new signage, and generate public safety improvements through the renovation of Gadsden Fire Station No. 5. The fire station will also be home to a new police sub-precinct for enhanced safety for campers and residents.
While access to the campground will be restricted during this time, visitors will still be able to explore the paid portion of the park along with the Falls, the Black Creek trails, and the wedding chapel.
