- The result of a community-focused plan, Gadsden State Community College and The City of Gadsden are entering into a long-term partnership to expand the existing sports facilities on the riverfront property currently owned by the two-year college system and leased by the City of Gadsden.
“We have seen the need for youth sports facilities in our community and this is a great opportunity to build on the investments we have made on the fields and facilities already in place. From my time as a coach I know how important teamwork is and we are glad to have teammates like Gadsden State to work with us on this project. This will be a homerun for the entire community,” said Gadsden Mayor Sherman Guyton
Recognizing the overwhelming need for additional youth sports facilities in Gadsden and the opportunity to connect the broader community to Gadsden State, this project will be mutually beneficial.
“This community-focused project is a great example of how your community college works to serve the citizens of this area. We have already enjoyed a successful long-term relationship with the City of Gadsden, and we are now embarking on an expansion that will not only meet a recreational need but will make the College even more visible to the community. We are excited to have the opportunity to showcase our world-class workforce and academic transfer programs to our visitors!” said GSCC President Dr. Martha Lavender.
Using the existing infrastructure and existing facilities, The City of Gadsden and Gadsden State are in the planning stages to create a state-of-the-art sports park with many fields, playgrounds, lighting, parking, and other amenities. Constructing new fields, parking, and facilities will provide a brand new, top quality facility for all of Gadsden and Etowah County.
The result of this collaborative project will be youth sports facilities for use by the community, further development of the Coosa Riverfront, and further deepening of the relationship between Gadsden State Community College and the City of Gadsden. Bringing thousands of families onto the Gadsden State Community College campus will also be a clear benefit, enabling the college to highlight recent investments in their academic facilities and award-winning programs.
